How would you like to find out what it is like to be a bird handler or maybe a falconer?.
Well here at Dullstroom Bird of Prey & Rehabilitation Centre you can find out how on experience days we offer.
At 11.30am you get to put the bird down for a short while whilst you get to watch and participate in one of our flying presentations with some of the demonstration birds. This has proved very popular with most of our guests and it is your own personal show. After the demonstration you will have learnt the bare basics of raptor handling, for example;learning how to pick up the bird correctly to give the bird complete trust in you.
Then for the remainder for your stay with us you will the opportunity to fly your chosen bird around our 120hct farm; not only enjoying the beautiful country side but to share and spend time in a more personal way with these stunning birds. Your morning finally ends by stopping off at the coffee shop for your certificate and a well deserved refreshment break before your journey home.
Your experience day
starts at 10am with a nice cup of coffee and a walk around the centre where we introduce you to all the birds and especially our personality birds; the flying team.
We then introduce you to your bird for the morning. This bird will now stay with you for the next hour whilst we explain to you the do’s and don’ts of how to get these birds to trust you and how not to upset them.
Then we set off on a walk with our birds so that you get used to the idea oft he bird standing nicely whilst you walk. This is a very important aspect of the birds training and yours. At all times there will be a member of staff with you, so please don't worry.
Experience Day (10am-1pm) Cost R600.00
10am: Introduction to centre, flying birds.
10.30am: Manning (the does and don’ts).
11am: Manning walk.
11.30am: Flying display.
12noon: Hawk walk (flying).
