Habitat : Flat savanna plains. Usually alone
flying low. Uncommon resident and threatened due to poisoning.
Breeding : Late summer. Nest concealed in tree. One large white egg which hatches after 8 weeks. Fledgling after 12 weeks.
Size : 70cm with wingspan 190 to 230cm
Identification : Distinctive white head, chest and tail with chestnut and black body and bare legs. Found alone and in pairs and perches prominently and has a well known and distinctive call.
Kings of the skies and skilled hunters is all that is needed to describe these magestic and mighty raptors. They are differentiated from buzzards by generally being larger and with feathered legs. Thirteen species occur in the southern Africa region.(family Accipitridae)
